Chapter 19

God gives His people a home.

The second portion of land was given to the tribe of Simeon, according to their families. Their inheritance was located within the territory of the tribe of Judah.

Their inheritance included Beersheba (also called Sheba), Moladah,

Hazar Shual, Balah, Ezem,

Eltolad, Bethul, and Hormah,

Ziklag, Beth Marcaboth, and Hazar Susah,

Beth Lebaoth, and Sharuhen—thirteen towns with their surrounding villages.

Ain, Rimmon, Ether, and Ashan—four towns with their surrounding villages,

and all the villages around these towns, as far as Baalath Beer, Ramah of the South. This was the land given to the tribe of Simeon’s descendants, according to their family groups.

The inheritance for the tribe of Simeon came from the land of Judah, because Judah’s portion was larger than they needed. So, the children of Simeon received their land within Judah’s inheritance.

The third lot of land was for the families of Zebulun. The edge of their land extended to Sarid.

Their border went west to Maralah, then reached Dabbesheth, and continued to the stream in front of Jokneam.

From Sarid, the border turned east towards the sunrise to the edge of Chisloth Tabor. It went on to Daberath and then up to Japhia.

From there, it continued eastward to Gath Hepher, to Ethkazin, and then extended to Rimmon, which reaches Neah.

The border went around to the north towards Hannathon and ended at the Valley of Iphtah El.

It included Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem—a total of twelve cities with their surrounding villages.

This is the inheritance for the families of Zebulun—these cities with their villages.

The fourth lot of land was for the families of Issachar.

Their border included Jezreel, Chesulloth, and Shunem.

Also Hapharaim, Shion, and Anaharath.

Rabbith, Kishion, Ebez,

Remeth, Engannim, En Haddah, and Beth Pazzez.

The border extended to Tabor, Shahazumah, and Beth Shemesh. Their border ended at the Jordan River, totaling sixteen cities with their villages.

This is the inheritance for the families of the tribe of Issachar—the cities with their villages.

The fifth allotment of land went to the families of the tribe of Asher.

Their border included Helkath, Hali, Beten, and Achshaph.

It also included Allammelech, Amad, and Mishal. It stretched west to Carmel and to Shihor-libnath.

The border then turned east toward Beth Dagon, reaching Zebulun and the valley of Iphtah El to the north, going on to Beth Emek and Neiel. It then extended toward Cabul on the left side,

and included Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah, all the way to the great city of Sidon.

The border then turned to Ramah, to the fortified city of Tyre; and the border turned to Hosah. It ended at the sea, in the region of Achzib;

It also included Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob. In total, there were twenty-two cities with their surrounding villages.

This is the land given to the families of the tribe of Asher, including these cities and their villages.

The sixth allotment of land went to the families of the tribe of Naphtali.

Their border started from Heleph, from the oak in Zaanannim, Adami-nekeb, and Jabneel, extending to Lakkum. It ended at the Jordan River.

The border then turned west to Aznoth Tabor and went on to Hukkok. It reached Zebulun to the south, Asher to the west, and Judah at the Jordan River to the east.

The fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, and Chinnereth.

Adamah, Ramah, and Hazor,

Kedesh, Edrei, and En Hazor,

Iron, Migdal El, Horem, Beth Anath, and Beth Shemesh. There were nineteen cities in all, with their surrounding villages.

This was the land given to the tribe of Naphtali, according to their family groups, including these cities and their villages.

The seventh lot of land was chosen for the tribe of Dan, according to their family groups.

The border of their land included Zorah, Eshtaol, and Irshemesh.

Shaalabbin, Aijalon, and Ithlah.

Elon, Timnah, and Ekron.

Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath,

Jehud, Bene Berak, Gath Rimmon,

Me Jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border reaching Joppa.

The territory of the descendants of Dan extended beyond these areas. The descendants of Dan went up and fought against Leshem, captured it, attacked it with their swords, took possession of it, and lived there. They then renamed Leshem, Dan, after their ancestor Dan.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants of Dan according to their families—these cities with their surrounding villages.

When they finished dividing the land by its borders to be inherited, the people of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua son of Nun among them.

Following Yahweh’s command, they gave him the city he requested, Timnathserah in the hill country of Ephraim. He rebuilt the city and lived there.

These are the inheritances that Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders of the family groups of the tribes of Israel divided by lot in Shiloh in the presence of Yahweh, at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. So they finished dividing the land.
