“Why doesn’t the Almighty set specific times for judgment? Why don’t those who know him see his days of judgment?
There are people who move property boundary markers. They violently steal flocks of animals and then feed on them.
They drive away the donkeys of orphans, and they take a widow’s ox as security for a loan.
They force the needy off the road. The poor of the land all have to hide themselves.
Look, like wild donkeys in the desert, they go out to their work, aggressively searching for food. The wilderness provides them with bread for their children.
They harvest their food in the field and gather up what is left in the vineyards of the wicked.
They spend the whole night naked, without clothes, and have nothing to cover themselves in the cold.
They are soaked by mountain rains and cling to rocks for shelter.
Some people snatch orphans from their mothers' breasts and take valuable items as collateral from the poor.
So the poor go naked without clothes, and though hungry, they carry bundles of grain.
They make olive oil within the walls of these men. They press wine in the wine presses, yet they suffer from thirst.
From the crowded city, people groan. The souls of the wounded cry out, yet God pays no attention to their foolishness.
“These are the ones who turn against the light. They don't know its ways or stay on its paths.
The murderer gets up at dawn to kill the poor and needy. At night, he acts like a thief.
The adulterer also waits for twilight, thinking, ‘No one will see me.’ He covers his face.
In the dark, they break into houses. They hide themselves during the day. They want nothing to do with the light.
For to them, morning is like deep darkness, because they know the terrors of that deep darkness.
“They are like foam on the surface of the water. Their land is cursed, and they do not go into the vineyards.
Drought and heat melt away snow, and the grave consumes those who have sinned.
Their mother's womb will forget them. Worms will feed sweetly on them. They will be remembered no more. Wickedness will be broken like a tree.
He preys on barren women who cannot have children. He shows no kindness to widows.
Yet God preserves the powerful with his strength. He helps those who have no assurance of life.
God gives them security, and they rely on it. His eyes are on their ways.
They rise to power, but after a short time, they are gone. Yes, they are brought low, taken away like everyone else, and cut down like the tops of grain.
If this isn't true, who can prove me wrong and show that my words are worthless?”
