The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.
Yahweh says: "Watch out, waters are rising from the north and will become an overflowing flood. They will cover the land and everything in it, the city and its residents. People will cry out, and all the inhabitants of the land will wail.
At the sound of the pounding hooves of his mighty horses, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, fathers will not even look back at their children because their hands are too weak to help;
because of the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off every remaining helper from Tyre and Sidon; for Yahweh will destroy the Philistines, the last survivors from the island of Caphtor.
Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is ruined, the rest of their valley: how long will you cut yourselves in mourning?
"'You sword of Yahweh, how long will it be before you are quiet? Go back into your sheath; rest and be still.'
"How can you be quiet, since Yahweh has given you a command? He has ordered it against Ashkelon and against the seashore."
