Isaiah

Chapter 6

Hope and the coming Savior.

In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a high and elevated throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple.

Above him stood the seraphim. Each one had six wings: with two, he covered his face; with two, he covered his feet; and with two, he flew.

One called to another and said, "Holy, holy, holy is Yahweh of Armies! The whole earth is full of his glory!"

The foundations of the doorways shook when he called out, and the house filled with smoke.

Then I said, "Oh no! I'm ruined, because I am a man with unclean lips, and I live among people with unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, Yahweh of Armies!"

Then one of the seraphim flew to me. In his hand he held a live coal that he had taken from the altar with tongs.

He touched my mouth with it and said, "Look, this has touched your lips. Your guilt is removed, and your sin is forgiven."

Then I heard the Lord's voice saying, "Whom should I send? Who will go for us?" I answered, "Here I am. Send me!"

He said, "Go and tell these people: 'You will hear and hear, but never understand. You will see and see, but never perceive.'

Make the hearts of these people dull. Make their ears heavy and shut their eyes, so they won't see with their eyes, or hear with their ears, or understand with their hearts. Otherwise, they might turn back and be healed.

Then I said, "Lord, how long will this last?" He answered, "Until cities are empty and without inhabitants, houses are without people, and the land is completely wasted,

and Yahweh has sent people far away, and many places in the land are deserted.

Even if a tenth of the people remain, that tenth will also be destroyed, like a terebinth tree or an oak tree that leaves a stump when it is cut down. The holy descendants are that stump."
