Isaiah

Chapter 20

Hope and the coming Savior.

1In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him, and he fought against Ashdod and captured it,

2at that time Yahweh spoke through Isaiah, Amoz's son, saying, 'Go, take off the sackcloth from your waist and your sandals from your feet.' Isaiah did so, walking naked and barefoot.

3Yahweh said, 'Just as my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and a warning about Egypt and Ethiopia,'

4so the king of Assyria will lead away the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Ethiopia, young and old, naked and barefoot, with their backsides exposed, bringing shame to Egypt.

5They will be dismayed and confused because of Ethiopia, in whom they placed their hope, and Egypt, in whom they boasted.

6On that day, the people living on this coast will say, 'Look, this is what happened to those we hoped in, those we ran to for help to be saved from the king of Assyria. And how will we escape?'
