Isaiah

Chapter 18

Hope and the coming Savior.

1Ah, the land of buzzing wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia;

2that sends messengers by sea, in boats made of papyrus on the water. It says, "Go, swift messengers, to a nation of tall, smooth-skinned people, to a people who have been awesome from the beginning, a nation that measures and crushes, whose land is divided by rivers!"

3All you people of the world, and all you who live on the earth, when a flag is raised on the mountains, look! When the trumpet is blown, listen!

4For Yahweh said to me, "I will remain calm and watch from my dwelling place, like the shimmering heat in sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest."

5For before the harvest, when the bloom is over and the flower becomes a ripening grape, he will cut off the new shoots with pruning hooks and cut down and remove the spreading branches.

6They will be left for the wild birds of the mountains and for the animals of the earth. The wild birds will feed on them in summer, and all the animals of the earth will feed on them in winter.

7At that time, a gift will be brought to Yahweh of Armies from a tall, smooth-skinned people, a people who have been awesome from the beginning, a nation that measures and crushes, whose land is divided by rivers. This gift will be brought to the place where Yahweh of Armies is worshipped, Mount Zion.
