Isaiah

Chapter 11

Hope and the coming Savior.

A new shoot will come from the family of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will grow and produce fruit.

The Spirit of Yahweh will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of advice and power, the Spirit of knowledge and respect for Yahweh.

He will delight in respecting Yahweh. He will not judge based on what he sees or make decisions based on what he hears.

Instead, he will judge the poor fairly and make just decisions for the humble people of the earth. He will strike the earth with the words from his mouth; with the breath of his lips, he will kill the wicked.

Righteousness will be the belt around his waist, and faithfulness the belt around his hips.

The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat. The calf, the young lion, and the fattened animal will be together, and a little child will lead them.

The cow and the bear will graze. Their young ones will lie down together. The lion will eat straw like the ox.

A baby will play near a cobra's hole, and a weaned child will put his hand on a viper's nest.

They will not hurt or destroy anything on all my holy mountain, because the earth will be filled with the knowledge of Yahweh, just as the waters cover the sea.

On that day, the nations will seek the descendant of Jesse, who stands as a signal for the people; and his resting place will be glorious.

On that day, the Lord will once again reach out his hand a second time to rescue the remaining people from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the islands of the sea.

He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the scattered people of Israel and Judah from the four corners of the earth.

Ephraim’s jealousy will disappear, and those who trouble Judah will be destroyed. Ephraim will no longer be jealous of Judah, and Judah will no longer be hostile toward Ephraim.

They will swoop down on the Philistines to the west. Together they will loot the people of the east. They will take control over Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will obey them.

Yahweh will completely dry up the tongue of the Egyptian sea. With his scorching wind, he will wave his hand over the River Euphrates, divide it into seven streams, and make it possible for people to walk across in sandals.

There will be a highway for the remaining people from Assyria, just as there was for Israel when they came out of Egypt.
