Joseph could no longer control himself in front of everyone standing near him, so he cried out, “Make everyone leave me!” So no one else was with him when Joseph revealed himself to his brothers.
Joseph wept loudly. The Egyptians heard him, and even Pharaoh's household heard him.
Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?" His brothers couldn't answer him because they were terrified by his presence.
Joseph said to his brothers, "Please come closer to me." They came closer. He said, "I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into Egypt."
Now don't be sad or angry with yourselves that you sold me here, because God sent me ahead of you to save lives.
For these two years the famine has been in the land, and there are still five more years to come when there will be no plowing or harvesting.
God sent me ahead of you to preserve a remnant of you on earth, and to keep you alive through a great rescue.
So now it wasn't you who sent me here, but God. He has made me like a father to Pharaoh, the master of his entire household, and ruler over all the land of Egypt.
Hurry, go up to my father and tell him, 'Your son Joseph says this: "God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; don't delay."
You will live in the land of Goshen, and you will be near me—you, your children, your grandchildren, your flocks, your herds, and everything you own.'
There I will provide for you, for there are still five years of famine ahead. Otherwise, you, your household, and everything you have will become poor."
Look, you can see with your own eyes, and my brother Benjamin can see with his eyes, that it is truly my mouth speaking to you.
You must tell my father about all my power in Egypt and everything you have seen. Hurry and bring my father down here."
He threw his arms around his brother Benjamin's neck and wept, and Benjamin wept on his neck.
He kissed all his brothers and wept on them. After that, his brothers talked with him.
The news was heard in Pharaoh's house: "Joseph's brothers have come!" Pharaoh and his servants were pleased.
Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Tell your brothers, 'Do this: Load your animals and go, travel to the land of Canaan.
Bring your father and your families to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you will eat the fat of the land.'
Now you are commanded to do this: Take wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and your wives, and bring your father and come.
Also, don't worry about your belongings, because the best of all the land of Egypt will be yours."
So the sons of Israel did this. Joseph gave them wagons as Pharaoh commanded, and he gave them supplies for the journey.
Joseph gave each of them changes of clothes, but to Benjamin he gave 300 pieces of silver and five changes of clothes.
To his father, he sent the following: ten donkeys loaded with the best things from Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain, bread, and supplies for his father's journey.
So he sent his brothers away, and as they left, he told them, “Make sure you don’t argue on the way.”
They left Egypt and came to the land of Canaan, to their father Jacob.
They told him, “Joseph is still alive, and he is the ruler over all of Egypt.” Jacob was stunned and didn't believe them.
They told him everything Joseph had said to them. When he saw the wagons Joseph had sent to carry him, Jacob, their father, felt his spirit revive.
Israel said, “This is enough! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”
