Ezekiel

Chapter 10

Wild visions of God's glory.

Then I looked, and above the cherubim, in the space above their heads, something that looked like a sapphire stone appeared, resembling a throne.

He spoke to the man dressed in linen and said, “Go in between the spinning wheels, right under the cherub, and fill both your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim. Then scatter them over the city.” The man went in as I watched.

Now the cherubim were standing on the right side of the temple when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner courtyard.

Yahweh’s glory moved up from the cherub and stood over the entrance of the temple. The temple was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the bright light of Yahweh’s glory.

The sound of the cherubim’s wings could be heard all the way to the outer court, like the voice of God Almighty when he speaks.

It happened that when he commanded the man dressed in linen, saying, “Take fire from between the spinning wheels, from between the cherubim,” the man went in and stood beside a wheel.

The cherub reached out his hand from among the cherubim to the fire that was between them. He took some of it and put it into the hands of the man dressed in linen, who took it and went out.

Under their wings, the cherubim had something that looked like a human hand.

I looked, and there were four wheels beside the cherubim, one wheel beside each cherub. The wheels looked like shiny green-blue stones.

All four of them had the same appearance, like a wheel within a wheel.

When they moved, they went in any of their four directions. They did not turn as they moved, but went straight in the direction the leading face looked. They did not turn as they moved.

Their entire bodies—their backs, hands, wings—and the wheels, were covered with eyes all around, including the wheels that all four of them had.

As for the wheels, I heard them called “the spinning wheels.”

Each one of them had four faces. The first face was that of a cherub, the second was that of a human, the third was that of a lion, and the fourth was that of an eagle.

The cherubim rose up. These are the living creatures I saw by the Chebar River.

When the cherubim moved, the wheels moved alongside them. And when the cherubim lifted their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels did not separate from them.

When the cherubim stood still, the wheels also stood still. And when the cherubim rose up, the wheels rose up with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

Yahweh’s glory moved away from the entrance of the temple and stood over the cherubim.

The cherubim lifted their wings and rose from the earth as I watched. They went out with the wheels beside them, and they stopped at the entrance of the east gate of Yahweh’s temple. The glory of the God of Israel was over them, high above.

These are the living creatures I saw under the God of Israel by the Chebar River, and I knew that they were cherubim.

Each one had four faces and four wings, and under their wings were things that looked like human hands.

Their faces were similar to the faces I saw by the Chebar River. Their appearance and their very being were the same. Each one moved straight forward.
