Yahweh said to Moses, "I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go. When he lets you go, he will completely drive you out of this land."
Tell the people that every man and woman should ask their neighbors for silver and gold jewelry."
Yahweh made the Egyptians think favorably of the people of Israel. Also, Moses was highly respected in Egypt by Pharaoh's officials and by the people.
Moses said, "This is what Yahweh says: 'Around midnight, I will go out into the middle of Egypt.
Every firstborn child in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on his throne, to the firstborn of the female servant who grinds grain, and all the firstborn livestock.
There will be a loud cry throughout all of Egypt, unlike anything that has ever happened before or will ever happen again.
But against any of the Israelites, not even a dog will bark at a person or an animal. This will show you that Yahweh makes a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.'
All these officials of yours will come down to me and bow before me, saying, 'Get out, you and all the people who follow you!' After that, I will leave." Moses then left Pharaoh's presence in a fit of anger.
Yahweh had said to Moses, "Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that my miracles can be multiplied in the land of Egypt."
Moses and Aaron performed all these miracles before Pharaoh, but Yahweh made Pharaoh stubborn, and he would not let the Israelites leave his land.
