Ecclesiastes

Chapter 11

What really matters in life.

1Invest what you have; eventually, you will get a return on your investment.

2Give a portion to seven people, or even to eight, because you don’t know what kind of trouble might happen on earth.

3When clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth. If a tree falls to the south or to the north, it stays where it falls.

4Someone who is always watching the wind won't plant, and someone who is always watching the clouds won't harvest.

5Just as you don’t know how the wind blows or how bones grow in a pregnant woman’s womb, so you don’t understand the work of God, who does everything.

6Plant your seeds in the morning, and keep on working in the evening, because you don’t know which effort will succeed, whether this or that, or if both will do equally well.

7Light is truly pleasant, and it’s good for your eyes to see the sun.

8Yes, if someone lives for many years, they should enjoy all of them. But they should also remember that there will be many dark days. Everything that happens is meaningless.

9Young man, enjoy your youth and be happy in the prime of your life. Follow your desires and what you see. But know that God will judge you for all these things.

10So, get rid of sadness from your heart and keep your body free from evil, because youth and the dawn of life are meaningless.
