2 Thessalonians

Chapter 3

Stand strong while you wait.

1Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the Lord's message may spread quickly and be honored, just as it was with you.

2Pray that we may be rescued from unreasonable and evil people, for not everyone believes.

3But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

4We are confident in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command.

5May the Lord guide your hearts to God’s love and to Christ’s endurance.

6Now, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we command you to stay away from every believer who lives in idleness and does not follow the teachings we gave them.

7For you know how you should follow our example. We did not live idly among you.

8We didn't eat anyone's food without paying for it. Instead, we worked hard and struggled day and night so that we would not be a burden to any of you.

9We did this not because we don't have the right to be supported, but to set an example for you to follow.

10For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: “If anyone refuses to work, they should not eat.”

11For we hear that some among you are living undisciplined lives, not working at all, but rather meddling in other people's business.

12We command and encourage such people in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and earn their own living.

13But as for you, brothers and sisters, do not get tired of doing good.

14If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, note that person, and do not associate with them, so that they may feel ashamed.

15Do not treat them as an enemy, but warn them as a brother or sister.

16Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

17I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand, which is my sign in every letter. This is how I write.

18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you. Amen.
