Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We are always obligated to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, as is right, because your faith is growing enormously, and the love of each and every one of you for each other is increasing.
Therefore, we ourselves boast about you in God's churches for your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and sufferings you are enduring.
This shows that God's judgment is right, and as a result, you will be considered worthy of God’s kingdom, for which you are also suffering.
It is right for God to pay back with trouble those who trouble you,
and to give relief to you who are troubled, along with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his powerful angels in flaming fire.
He will punish those who don’t know God and those who don’t obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus.
They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and from his mighty glory.
This will happen when he comes on that day to be honored by his holy people and admired by everyone who has believed—including you, because you believed our message.
That’s why we always pray for you, asking that our God will make you worthy of his calling and, by his power, fulfill every good desire and every act prompted by your faith.
Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
