David once again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand of them.
David and all the people with him left Baale Judah to bring up God’s ark from there. The ark is called by the name of Yahweh of Armies, who sits above the cherubim.
They placed God’s ark on a new cart and brought it out of Abinadab’s house, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, Abinadab’s sons, drove the new cart.
They brought it out of Abinadab’s house on the hill with God’s ark, and Ahio walked in front of the ark.
David and all the people of Israel celebrated before Yahweh with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood: harps, stringed instruments, tambourines, castanets, and cymbals.
When they came to Nacon’s threshing floor, Uzzah reached out and grabbed God’s ark because the oxen stumbled.
Yahweh became angry with Uzzah and struck him down right there for his mistake, and Uzzah died there beside God’s ark.
David was upset because Yahweh had struck out against Uzzah, so he named that place Perez Uzzah, which it is still called today.
David was afraid of Yahweh that day and said, “How can Yahweh’s ark come to me?”
So David decided not to bring Yahweh’s ark into his own city. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom, who was from Gath.
Yahweh’s ark stayed in Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house for three months, and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and his entire household.
King David was told, “Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and everything he owns because of God’s ark.” So David went and, with great joy, brought God’s ark from Obed-Edom’s house to his own city.
After those carrying Yahweh's ark had gone six steps, David sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.
David danced before Yahweh with all his might, wearing a linen ephod.
So, David and all the people of Israel brought up Yahweh’s ark with shouting and the sound of trumpets.
As Yahweh's sacred chest was brought into David's City, Saul's daughter Michal looked out a window. She saw King David jumping and dancing before Yahweh, and she felt contempt for him in her heart.
They brought Yahweh's sacred chest inside and placed it in its spot in the tent David had set up for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings to Yahweh.
When David finished offering the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of Armies.
He gave a portion of bread, dates, and raisins to everyone in the whole crowd of Israelite men and women. Then all the people left, each going to their own home.
Then David went home to bless his own household. Michal, Saul's daughter, came out to meet David and said, "How glorious the king of Israel was today! He exposed himself today in front of his servants' female attendants, just like a common person shamelessly exposes himself!"
David said to Michal, "I was doing it before Yahweh, who chose me over your father and all his family to appoint me ruler over Yahweh's people, over Israel. That is why I will celebrate before Yahweh.
I will humble myself even more than this and be looked down upon in my own eyes. But as for the female attendants you mentioned, they will honor me."
Michal, Saul's daughter, had no children until the day she died.
