Timothy

Chapter 4

Leading the church well.

But the Spirit clearly says that in later times some people will abandon the faith. They will pay attention to deceiving spirits and teachings that come from demons.

These teachings come through hypocritical liars whose consciences have been seared as if with a hot iron.

They forbid people to marry and command them to stay away from certain foods. But God created these foods to be received with thankfulness by those who believe and know the truth.

For everything God created is good. Nothing should be rejected if it is received with thankfulness.

Because it is made holy through God's word and prayer.

If you remind the brothers and sisters of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished by the words of faith and the good teaching you have followed.

But reject godless myths and old wives’ tales. Train yourself to be devoted to God.

Because physical exercise has some benefit, but devotion to God is beneficial in every way. It holds promise for both the present life and the life to come.

This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance.

That is why we work hard and are criticized, because we have placed our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially those who believe.

Command and teach these things.

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young. Instead, be an example to the believers in what you say, in how you live, in your love, in your spirit, in your faith, and in your purity.

Until I come, devote yourself to public reading of Scripture, to encouraging others, and to teaching.

Don't neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy when the elders laid their hands on you.

Be diligent in these matters. Give yourself completely to them, so that everyone can see your progress.

Pay close attention to your own life and to your teaching. Continue to do these things, for by doing so you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.
